Pilot created the Kakuno to be the ideal beginner's fountain pen. It is full of design features intended to teach children and it's affordable, so if you're new to fountain pen writing and don't want to spend a lot on your first pen, the Kakuno will give you a great first experience, and won't break the bank.
One of the more challenging things about writing with a fountain pen is holding the tip at the right angle for the ink to flow properly. Kakuno has a triangle grip that helps you place your fingers in the proper position naturally, and rounded edges for comfort. And a cute smiley face is imprinted on the nib to remind you which side to face up when writing.
The barrel is hexagonal to mimic the familiarity of wood pencils, and keep the pen from rolling. The cap is indented at the top for an easier grip when pulling it off. And the cap fits with a soft click so you know when it's on tight to keep the ink from drying out.
The clear body looks clean, and allows you to see the cartridge inside. Perfect if you like to change ink colors.
Cap and barrel are made of recycled materials. Each pen comes with one black ink cartridge, and instructions for simple installation. Additional ink cartridges are sold separately.
