The Kuru Toga lead rotating system is often considered the most important advance in mechanical pencil engineering. Inside the pencil is a mechanism that rotates the lead by a fraction each time the pencil is lifted off the paper. This self-sharpening system prevents the lead from flattening on one side, creating a tip that snaps, or catches on the paper.

The high grade model has an aluminum grip which also gives the pencil weight and additional control. The body is plastic, and there is a sturdy clip as well as a built-in eraser under the cap.
